St Mary Passes Tax Ordinance, Other Bills

By Editor | March 17, 2021 By MARK EVANS mevans@stegenherald.com All four St. Mary city aldermen voted for adoption of an ordinance that allows the city to cut off residents’ utilities for unpaid city taxes at last Thursday night’s meeting. Some residents who attended complained that they were not given a chance to comment on the ordinance before the board unanimously voted in favor of it. The meeting agenda typically has a “public forum” early-on, which Mayor Carlton Wyatt explained is occasionally used for experts to explain projects to the board. At the bottom of the agenda is “citizens participation.”

Gary A Burginyon

Gary A. Burginyon, age 85, passed away on Feb. 24, in Pleasanton. He grew up in Spokane, Washington, and attended Washington State University, where he was a Phi Beta Kappa recipient. He came to the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in 1968 after receiving his doctorate in experimental nuclear physics from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. At Yale, he did Coulomb excitation studies of rare earth nuclei using the MP tandem accelerator. At Livermore, he first joined the High-Altitude Physics group, where he thoroughly enjoyed the projects as it included many trips to the Pacific Missile Range on Kauai. Later, he worked on diagnostics, including trips to the Nevada Test Site and assisting a group at the Aldermaston Laboratory in England. Prior to coming to the Livermore Lab, he worked on anti-submarine warfare projects at Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C.

Investigators say Kevin Jiang may have been targeted; Eric Shawn has the latest on America Reports The U.S. Marshals Service announced Monday evening that it’s expanding its manhunt nationwide for MIT researcher Qinxuan Pan, a suspect wanted in the murder of Yale University graduate student Kevin Jiang, after efforts to locate him with relatives in Georgia for weeks have failed. Pan, described by authorities as a 29-year-old, 6-foot Asian male weighing 170 pounds, was last seen in the early morning hours on Feb. 11 driving with family members in Brookhaven or Duluth, Georgia. Family told investigators that Pan was carrying a black backpack and acting strange when they last saw him, the U.S. Marshals Service said.
