Why (and how) did God inspire Sacred Scripture?

A Church dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century

Embarrassed over the Church s response to COVID?

By Dr. Jeff Mirus ( bio - articles - email ) | May 25, 2021 There is a fine line between moral prudence and moral cowardice. There is an even finer line between trusting and not trusting God. I admit that discerning these things can be difficult. But in praying with Ezra the other day, I discovered something all of us need to think about more often than we do. Ezra, as many readers will recall, was permitted by King Cyrus of Persia to spearhead a Jewish mission out of exile and back to Jerusalem, to rebuild the Temple of the Lord. He made ready and at length gathered all those who would accompany him on the banks of the river Ahava. Then, with all in order for what could be expected to be a dangerous journey, Ezra chose

The Church and social policy: When less is more

By Dr. Jeff Mirus ( bio - articles - email ) | May 21, 2021 Here’s a novel thought for you: There is a big difference between “policy” and “virtue” and, choosing between these two, the Church’s business is virtue. The road to heaven is paved by a healthy Church

By Dr. Jeff Mirus ( bio - articles - email ) | May 18, 2021 Manasseh, King of Judah, did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to the abominable practices of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the people of Israel. For he rebuilt the high places which his father Hezekiah had broken down, and erected altars to the Baals, and made Asherahs, and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served them. And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD. And he burned his sons as an offering in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and practiced soothsaying and augury and sorcery, and dealt with mediums and with wizards. And the image of the idol which he had made he set in the house of God. Manasseh seduced Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that they did more evil than the nations whom the LORD destroyed before the people of Israel.
