Legislature Opens Door To Corrections Projects | NewsRadio 1110 KFAB

In a big ticket item, A Request For Proposal for the siting and design of the proposed 1,512 bed facility to replace the Nebraska State Penitentiary has been made. “This will allow NDCS to identify a consultant who will be responsible for designing the facility, helping to locate a site on which to build, and managing various aspects of construction,” said Corrections Director Scott Frakes. The Legislature approved $14.7 million in state funding in FY2021-2022 to start designing and planning for a new facility.

Nebraska Corrections Will Again Allow Visitations At Some Facilities

By Terry Leahy Dec 16, 2020 The visitations will resume at five locations starting December 23rd, 2020, will be scheduled and approved in advance and will be carried out under specific guidelines for preventing the spread of COVID-19. “The guidelines are those that were instituted this summer, when the agency resumed visitation after the initial onset of the coronavirus,” said Corrections Director Scott Frakes. “Family members and friends will be required to register online for a time slot in which to visit. They will also be required to wear masks, socially distance during the visit, and will be screened upon entry into each building.”
