pray@altoonamirror.com A former inmate of the State Correctional Institution at Smithfield in Huntingdon County has failed to convince the Pennsylvania Superior Court that he found newly-discovered, exculpatory evidence in his case, which involved the aggravated assault of corrections officers during a 2013 melee at the prison. Huntingdon County Common Pleas Court Judge George N. Zanic sentenced Ronald Terell Stockton, now 33, to an additional 27 to 100 months behind bars after the inmate was found guilty of aggravated assault of the officers. Stockton was originally sentenced to a prison term of 10 to 20 years for robberies that occurred in Philadelphia County. His Huntingdon County sentence is to be served consecutive to the Philadelphia County sentence.

For the Mirror CLEARFIELD A state prison inmate has pleaded guilty for the death of his cellmate while they were both incarcerated at the state prison in Houtzdale. In October, state police charged Jacob Michael Mitchell, 34, with criminal homicide and related charges in connection with the death of Garrick Bloom. Bloom, 48, who had been convicted of multiple child rape charges, was found unresponsive in his cell at 11:03 p.m. Aug. 29, according to previous reports. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. A trooper described Bloom as having bruises all over his face and markings on his neck that indicated he had been choked by some sort of string.

Crawford DA: DNA links Meadville man to rape of Allegheny student

MEADVILLE  A DNA match has led to the filing of charges against a Meadville man in a city police investigation into the rape of a female Allegheny College student in a campus dormitory room in December 2019. The defendant, Montelle J. Brown, 28, faces charges including first-degree felony counts of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and burglary. The Meadville Police Department charged Brown on Wednesday. He is an inmate at the State Correctional Institution at Smithfield, in Huntingdon in central Pennsylvania. Arrangements are being made for Meadville District Judge Samuel Pendolino to arraign Brown on the new charges by video conferencing, authorities said.
