The administration will take action against private hospitals in Tiruppur district upon receiving specific complaints about alleged irregularities in COVID-19 treatment, said Minister for Information and Publicity M.P. Saminathan on Thursday.
He along with Minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare N. Kayalvizhi Selvaraj chaired a review meeting at the District Collectorate to take stock of the COVID-19 situation in the district.
Speaking to the reporters, he said that the private hospitals must inform the Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital in advance before referring COVID-19 patients to ensure availability of beds. “The private hospitals will be intimated regarding this either in writing or through visits by officials,” he said. On allegations of some private hospitals overcharging the patients for COVID-19 treatment, he said that the district administration will not hesitate in initiating action based on specific complaints.
Oxygen bus for patients in Tiruppur

Tiruppur Tiruppur-based NGOs have come together to ready an oxygen bus in an attempt to ensure adequate oxygen supply to COVID-19 patients waiting for hospitalisation.
Young Indians Tiruppur, Sakthi Nursing Home, Tiruppur Riders Club and S.N.S School have jointly readied the bus which could house five patients at a time. According to M. Padmanabhan, a member of Young Indians Tiruppur, the bus is likely to be operational from Friday upon receiving permission from the district administration and it would be dedicated to the Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital.
Coimbatore: Scotching rumours that two Covid-19 patients died while waiting outside the Tirupur Government Medical College and Hospital for admission, dean of the hospital Valli Sathyamoorthy on Monday said while one patient died while he was brought to the hospital from a private hospital, the other died without responding to treatment on Sunday night.
Valli said a 65-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were referred to the Tirupur Government Medical College Hospital around 11pm on Sunday from private hospitals.
The man died while on the way to the government hospital from a private hospital in an ambulance. The woman patient died within 30 minutes of admission.

AAA Following rumours on social media platforms that two COVID-19 patients died while waiting outside Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital, officials from the hospital and the district administration on Monday denied that such deaths had occurred.
Hospital authorities said that the two patients – a 65-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman – were referred to the Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital after 11 p.m. on Sunday from private treatment centres in an advanced stage of infection. While one of them was dead on arrival, the other died within 30 minutes of admission, according to the authorities.
