Police at the scene on Borough Road A MAN has appeared in court charged causing the death of a 90-year-old woman by careless driving. Ionut Grosu appeared at Liverpool Crown Court charged with causing the death of elderly bus passenger Margaret Coates. Mrs Coates, who was from Thatto Heath, died on the night of Saturday, February 22 last year in hospital after suffering a serious head injury while on a bus on Borough Road during the afternoon. At around 1.10pm she had been on an Arriva bus on Borough Road, St Helens when it is alleged a white Mercedes Sprinter van driven by Romanian Ionut Grosu stopped suddenly in front of the bus.

Renovation works to take place for new community cafe and foodbank at Eternity Downham Market  | Updated: 14:32, 20 January 2021 Extensive renovation works are set to begin next month at the home of a market town s foodbank. Eternity Downham Market, located on Sovereign Way, will have a larger foodbank area, community café, new roof and glass front as part of the changes. The work is expected to take roughly three months to complete from February 8. Renovation work is set to take place at Eternity Downham Market. Picture: Eternity Downham Market Centre manager Alex Coates has said the foodbank will continue to operate during the renovations with all the produce already donated being moved to a temporary location for storage.
