Jump forward four years, and the sequel has similarly arrived somewhat under the radar, with
Hitman s Wife s Bodyguard focusing on Jackson s on-screen wife (Salma Hayek), dragging Reynolds out of his self-imposed retirement from the world of bodyguarding.
The sequel also adds Antonio Banderas, Morgan Freeman and Frank Grillo to the expanding cast-list, and the switched-up core dynamic of Jackson and Hayek constantly making fun of a suddenly-pacificist Reynolds looks to bring some genuine laughs.
Like we said above, this seems to be exactly the kind of fun movie we all need in our lives right now.
The Hitman s Wife s Bodyguard is currently scheduled to arrive in UK cinemas on Wednesday, 23 June, so we ll see if Irish cinemas have reopened by then, too.
In the global press conference for the recently released trailer, JOE was lucky enough to ask some of the folk involved some of the bigger questions around the latest entry in the series.
You can check out the answers from Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, John Cena, and director and co-writer Justin Lin right here:
So the next question, after you ve brought people back from the dead and sent some of them into space, is where do you go from here?
And now another online campaign has begun, with fans noticing that the Fast and the Furious franchise is owned by Universal, who also happen to hold the keys to another huge property:
Kathy Bates, the Academy Award-winning actress and star of Misery, Titanic, and PS I Love You, will also tell how she is trying to perfect a Ballyfermot accent for her latest role.
Meanwhile, Ireland rugby captain Johnny Sexton will be chatting about his chances of making the Lions team, the return of Simon Zebo to Munster, and lending his support to DEBRA Ireland.
Claudia Scanlon will be joined by her mother Liz to speak to Ryan about living with rare health condition, Epidermolysis Bullosa, and thriving against the odds.
Singer Imelda May will also appear to give an exclusive performance of Don’t Let Me Stand on My Own, with her boyfriend Niall McNamee, from her new album 11 Past the Hour.

What was initially almost entirely about drag racing and drifting in the first three movies soon evolved into bus flips (Fast & Furious), train heists (Fast Five), tank chases (Fast & Furious 6), stealth helicopter shoot-outs (Furious 7), and exploding submarines (Fast & Furious 8).
It looks like there is no intention of slowing down (driving pun, nailed it) with the upcoming Fast & Furious 9, which is due to arrive in Irish cinemas on Thursday 8, July, and released its brand new trailer this week:
