The Leominster Fire Department will join other departments from across the state in receiving grants to fund fire education programs for children and older adults, and to purchase safety equipment for firefighters.
Leominster will receive a $6,380 Student Awareness of Fire Education (S.A.F.E.) grant, a $2,880 Senior SAFE grant, and $20,000 from the Fiscal 2021 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program.
“Since 1996, the S.A.F.E. program has brought fire education to hundreds of thousands of students in the Commonwealth,” said Gov. Charlie Baker. “This program allows firefighters and teachers to work together to provide fire and life safety education to young people. This collaboration contributed to a major accomplishment. No children died in fires in Massachusetts last year.”
Chief John F. Sullivan recently announced that the Brookline Fire Department is one of nearly 300 fire departments across the state to have been awarded a grant.
