The Porsche Taycan now lays claim to having driven 1000kms in 13 hours at the Brands Hatch racing circuit in the UK, taking the record in the category of electric vehicles (EVs) over 1000kg .
Of the 13 records, Porsche set the quickest EV to reach 50km, 50 miles, 100km, and 500km marks from a standstill – among others – as well as the 1000km distance record.
Brands Hatch was the location of choice, with the German manufacturer having claimed various endurance trophies at the track. In fact, Porsche made up the first six places during a 1000km race in 1984.
To assist with the task, a star-studded line-up of drivers took to the wheel of a Taycan Turbo S and Taycan 45, with all cars were exhibiting tribute liveries to celebrate the success of Porsche at the historical circuit.

The German carmaker is no stranger to the world of endurance racing, becoming one of the most successful manufacturers to compete in this form of motorsport. It won the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans race a record 19-times and has some fond memories about Brands Hatch as well.
Half of a century ago, a 917 co-driven by Pedro Rodriguez and Leo Kinnunen managed to win the 1,000-kilometer (621-mile) race held at the legendary British track five laps before the competition crossed the checkered flag.
The Taycan 4S sported a specially-designed Salzburg tribute livery the Taycan Turbo S was inspired by the 1984 Porsche 956 Palmer drove to victory during the World Endurance Championship at Brands Hatch. Mirroring the 1000 km of Brands Hatch endurance race in 1970, the records were set during intermittent rain showers, but the Taycan proved to be more than capable during the challenging conditions.
In ideal conditions, the Taycan s 93.4 kWh battery can be charged from five to 80 percent in 22.5 minutes, which was crucial for the record attempt. The car s thermal management effectively cooled and heated the high-voltage components and optimized the temperature for charging. In total, the Taycan 4S spent a total of three hours and three seconds entering or exiting the charging area and charging, which was completed over six stops. Each stop lasted around 30 minutes, enabling the cars to charge from around five to 85 percent.
