Sheriff’s deputies serve and protect others across the county everyday, but sometimes the life saving measures are necessary to save each other. Deputy Justin Madison was honored at a short ceremony Tuesday morning in the sheriff’s office at the Columbiana County courthouse for saving the life of another deputy. He is shown here with Sheriff Brian McLaughlin (left) and Chief Deputy Jennifer Tucker (right). Nearly a year ago, deputies stopped a training exercise to take a break and the deputy’s airway became obstructed and Madison knew what to do. According to Sheriff McLaughlin, Madison took charge of the situation and instructed another deputy to call for an ambulance. Madison then performed the Heimlich maneuver on the deputy, dislodging the obstruction and saving his life. For his heroic actions on March 28, Madison was given the Life Saving Award through the Buckeye State Sheriffs’ Association, one of several awards the organization recogni
