And it has no place in our democracy, Harris said while speaking from Wilmington, Del.  I believe we must ask ourselves two questions about what happened yesterday: What went wrong? And how do we make it right? she said. A justice system that is experienced differently depending on whether you are white or Black, Harris said.

The reports on Wednesday also said that he will name Merrick Garland, a federal appeals court judge, as the attorney general. Gupta had served as the principal deputy assistant attorney general and head of the Civil Rights Division at the Justice Department in former President Barack Obama s administration when Biden was the Vice President.

WASHINGTON  A U.S. Capitol Police officer died Thursday after being injured when supporters of President Donald Trump raided the Capitol building on Wednesday, bringing the total number of fatalities to five. Brian D. Sicknick was injured while physically engaging with protesters on Wednesday, USCP said in a statement. He returned to his division office and collapsed, then was taken to a local hospital where he died Thursday evening.  The death of Officer Sicknick will be investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch, the USCP, and our federal partners, the USCP said in a statement.  Sicknick had been with the USCP since July 2008, and most recently served in the department’s First Responders Unit, officials said in a statement.
