SALT LAKE CITY â The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints issued a congratulatory statement to President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on Monday after their win in the 2020 election was formalized by United States electors.
The statement read:
We congratulate President-elect Joe Biden on his election as President of the United States. We also congratulate Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.

President-elect Joe Biden traveled to Georgia on Tuesday to campaign for Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, the two Democrats who are challenging incumbent Republican Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler in a pair of January runoff races that will determine which party controls the US Senate. All 538 electors voted Monday in the Electoral College, formalizing President-elect Joe Biden s victory in the 2020 presidential election. Their votes will next be sent to Washington to be counted by Congress on January 6.
Hawaii s four electors voted shortly after 7 p.m. to make the final tally 306 Electoral College votes for Mr. Biden to 232 for President Trump. At 5:30 p.m. ET, California s electors cast their state s 55 Electoral College votes for Mr. Biden, putting him over the 270 needed to win.

But Monday began with a top White House adviser, Stephen Miller, declaring on Fox News that there had been a “fraudulent election result” and saying that “an alternate slate of electors” in contested states would vote and would send their results to Congress from states the president lost.
Miller is not alone; much of the Republican Party still refuses to fully and publicly acknowledge the election results, even as they have been certified by all 50 states, the Electoral College electors have voted and the Supreme Court has declined to hear a legal challenge that Trump had teased as “perhaps the most important case in history.”
