COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - As Inauguration Day quickly approaches, some local politicians are in Washington, D.C. for the swearing in of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.
Although Representative Drew Ferguson says he has differing views than Biden, he believes going to the inauguration is the right thing to do. “As Americans, no matter how you feel about the election and the outcome of the election, there is a peaceful transfer of power,” he said.

The vice president often has taken on jobs that in other administrations might have gone to the man on top. That role has intensified in the last weeks of Donald Trump's presidency.

With a day remaining in his term, Trump is still consumed with grievance over Republicans he believes abandoned him and insistent to people around him that he actually won the election he lost.
On Tuesday, the once-loyal Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on the Senate floor that the insurrectionist mob was “provoked” by Trump.
McConnell touted that Congress did its duty despite the violence on January 6, certifying the victory of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.
“We’ll have a safe and successful inaugural right here on the very front of the Capitol,” said McConnell.
