The claim: Hugo Chavez s family owns part of Dominion Voting Systems
After losing the 2020 presidential election, which was certified by the Electoral College on Dec. 14, outgoing President Donald Trump has waged a campaign of disinformation about election interference and voter fraud.
Dozens of Republican officials, including some who were elected in the same process that they falsely claim had widespread fraud, have backed the Trump campaign s unsuccessful attempts to overturn the results of the election.
The claims about interference and fraud from the campaign s supporters range from Sharpies invalidating conservative voter s ballots in Arizona to Hugo Chávez the deceased former president of Venezuela owning part of Dominion Voting Systems, whose machines are used in 28 states.

The House committees on Homeland Security and Oversight and Reform Thursday launched an investigation into a wide-ranging hack that has impacted multiple federal agencies since it was publicly revealed Dec. 13.
The House investigation was announced hours after the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency released an alert outlining at least one more attack vector used by hackers in addition to the SolarWinds Orion product used to compromise some federal systems. The alert further identified IT and security personnel as prime targets for hackers.
President-elect Joe Biden on Thursday evening formally nominated former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm to be the next U.S. energy secretary and said he would appoint former EPA head Gina McCarthy as his national climate adviser.
Earlier this week, the Free Press confirmed that Granholm, who served as governor from 2003 to 2011, was set to be nominated to run the U.S. Department of Energy. McCarthy s apparent appointment, meanwhile, had raised some concerns in Michigan because she ran the Environmental Protection Agency when it came under scrutiny for its handling of the Flint water crisis.
Praise for Granholm began coming quickly as the official announcement was made. U.S. Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., who worked for her administration as lottery commissioner, called her a tireless advocate for Michigan workers and said her experience working with the auto industry will be important as the Biden administration looks to help automakers transition into making more electric vehicles.
