Harrisburg man who raped woman at gunpoint denied break on decades-long prison sentence
Updated 1:41 PM;
A Harrisburg rapist saw his hope for freedom dwindle Friday when a state appeals court refused to overturn his convictions.
The Superior Court panel also rejected Jose Figueroa Jr.’s claim that his 19- to 40-year prison sentence is “excessive and unreasonable.”
In an opinion by Judge Mary Murray, the state court backed a Dauphin County jury’s decision to convict Figueroa last year on counts of rape, sexual assault, unlawful restraint, robbery and conspiracy.
Jose Figueroa Jr.
Figueroa, 21, was charged with raping the woman at gunpoint in March 2017 after she gave Figueroa and a male friend a ride in her car. The woman said she also was pistol-whipped and had escaped by fleeing from her car while naked.
‘One more blow could have been fatal’: Harrisburg man gets 15 to 30 years in prison for two brutal rapes
Updated May 12, 2021;
A Harrisburg man who pleaded guilty to committing two brutal rapes, including one a prosecutor said was nearly fatal, will be spending the next 15 to 30 years in a state prison.
Dauphin County Judge Deborah E. Curcillo imposed that penalty on Michael Wright on his 36th birthday, nearly three years after Wright was arrested by city police.
“The surgeon who treated her said one more blow could have been fatal,” Gettle said.
Michael Wright
Wright was sentenced under a plea agreement that covered the July 2018 of that woman, a May 2018 rape of another woman, and an unrelated burglary. He will have to register with state police for life as a sex offender, Gettle said. She said it still must be determined whether Wright will be designated a sexually violent predator, the most dangerous kind of sex offender.
Steelton man, 49, who impregnated 15-year-old girl sentenced to state prison, labeled a sex offender
Updated Dec 16, 2020;
A 49-year-old Steelton man who convicted of sex crimes for impregnating a 15-year-old girl was sentenced Wednesday to 6 to 12 years in state prison.
Dauphin County Judge William T. Tully imposed that penalty on Kelvin McLean two months after a jury convicted McLean on charges of statutory sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor and corruption of minors.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Gettle said Tully ordered McLean to serve 5 years on probation after he finishes that aggravated-range jail term.
McLean also must register with state police for life as a sex offender, Gettle said.
