Tuba City Collaboration Turns Forest Thinning Debris Into Firewood For Those In Need

File photo: A stack of thinned trees from the Coconino National Forest near Flagstaff Credit KNAU The Tuba City Wood for Life program is a joint effort between tribal members, the Nature Conservancy, U.S. Forest Service and Campbell Global, LLC. Ten truckloads of wood removed from local national forests were delivered every week this month to people on both the Hopi and Navajo Nations to use for warmth and cooking. Organizers say the project helps people in need, and creates healthier forest conditions by removing flammable debris. Temperatures in Tuba City are expected to dip below 20 degrees tonight.
