COVID outbreak at Mac care center tied to 11 deaths, dozens of cases   The positive news this week that COVID-19 vaccines were on the way was dampened by the report of 10 new deaths in Yamhill County, a 50% increase to the local toll that is now at 30. Yamhill County Public Health released a press release Thursday afternoon stating that 11 recent COVID deaths are tied to an outbreak at Majorie House Memory Care Community in McMinnville; and 35 more people there have tested positive. Our hearts go out to everyone involved in this incredibly sad situation we find ourselves in, said Health and Human Services Director Lindsey Manfrin. 

Saint Alphonsus Medical Center-Ontario president goes back to the front line

ONTARIO Staff shortages in rural health care due to COVID-19, mean that the newly appointed president at Saint Alphonsus Medical Center-Ontario, who is also a registered nurse, is heading back to the front line. Dina Ellwanger took over as president and chief nursing officer for Ontario medical center Aug. 17, and is already experiencing the effects of the pandemic on her role. The Ontario hospital leader was among the first to receive the dose in Oregon, which was broadcast live from assorted locations during a news conference with Gov. Kate Brown on Wednesday. During the Broadcast, Ellwanger said she elected to get vaccinated to show her support for the effort and to able to staff the hospital’s vaccine clinic, allowing other staff members to stay at their posts.

By Fiona McCann 12/16/2020 at 3:45pm Oregon healthcare workers being vaccinated today against COVID-19.  Five healthcare workers at the Legacy Hospital System were among the first Oregonians to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine this morning. On a countdown of three, two, one! , two registered nurses—one from the Legacy Emanuel intensive care unit and one from the Emergency Department—a radiographer, a respiratory therapist, and the housekeeping supervisor for Randall Children’s Hospital received the vaccine publicly just after 11 a.m.
