Zoom Agrees to Pay $85M to Settle User Privacy Lawsuit

Updated on August 3, 2021 at 6:26 pm Getty Images Zoom Video Communications Inc. will pay $85 million to settle a class action lawsuit that alleged Zoom failed to protect users privacy, attorneys for the plaintiffs said. The settlement is pending approval by a judge, with a motion for preliminary approval filed on Monday in federal court in San Jose, the attorneys said. The suit against the San Jose-based videoconferencing company was first filed in March 2020 and included a dozen plaintiffs who alleged that Zoom failed to provide end-to-end encryption of meetings, improperly shared users information, and left users exposed to zoombombing, which is when unauthorized third parties join a video conference with the intent to disrupt.
