Sandals plan a fast-track recruitment drive for 500 Vincentians after La Soufriere eruption Sandals Resorts International (SRI) has announced plans to fast-track the recruitment process for Vincentians because of the recent volcano eruption. The hotel chain has said the quick process is one way they can assist in St. Vincent’s recovery after the recent eruptions at the La Soufriere volcano. The recruitment drive will begin in the next few weeks and will offer 500 Vincentians direct employment opportunities, some of which will include work at the new Beaches Resort on the island. According to a statement, Sandals Executive Chairman Adam Stewart said: “In light of the displacement, many are experiencing due to the volcanic eruption, we are fast-tracking our plans for employment and training opportunities.”

KCCU has pledged their support to the local Agricultural Sector

NBC SVG The Kingstown Co-operative Credit Union (KCCU) said it is committed to supporting the local Agricultural sector, during this challenging period. This assurance came from Martin Sheen, one of the Directors of the KCCU, during a ceremony held last week, to mark the handing over of 20 water tanks from the KCCU to the Ministry of Agriculture, to be used by Farmers across the country. Mr. Sheen noted that the drought of 2020 dealt a significant blow to the Agricultural sector, with farmers losing millions of dollars. She also added that this year’s explosive eruption of La Soufriere Volcano also dealt a significant blow to the Agricultural sector.

DIGICEL chair O Brien thanks UK government for help to SVG

DENIS OBRIEN Social Share Having spoken out to condemn strongly the inaction of the UK Government in the wake of the devastation being caused by the ongoing La Soufriere volcanic activity in St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Digicel Chairman, Denis O’Brien, [was Monday, April 3], thanking them for answering the call.  St. Vincent & the Grenadines is facing a humanitarian crisis with the ongoing La Soufriere volcanic activity causing the mass displacement of over [20],000 people, food insecurity and a potential public health emergency.  The UK Government had originally committed just £200,000 through the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) to help St. Vincent – an amount the Digicel Chairman labelled “pitiful” when calling on the UK Government to step up and do the right thing.
