The Government has given its assurance to provide the assistance needed in the rebuilding process of St.Vincent and the Grenadines
Vincentians have been assured that the Government will provide the assistance needed to facilitate the rebuilding process, following the explosive phase of the La Soufriere Volcanic eruption.
The assurance has come from Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, who said when the Government returns to Parliament, funds will be included in the Supplementary Estimates for building materials.
The Prime Minister appealed to persons who may not need as much assistance as residents in the Red Zone, not to abuse the system.

KINGSTOWN, St Vincent – Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves on Wednesday said Cabinet is to decide soon whether it will accept a recommendation from scientists to lower the alert level for some parts of the island as the seismic activity at the La Soufriere volcano remained low for yet another day.
But Gonsalves, speaking on the state-owned NBC Radio, also warned nationals to brace themselves for possible floods and landslides as the Meteorological Office was predicting inclement weather over the next few days.
“We may have some rains as we get to the weekend. I hope we don’t have it excessively,” Gonsalves said, recalling that a few weeks ago when the island experienced heavy rainfall, it led to floods and landslides across the island, as well as lahars (mud flows) from the volcano.

The UWI Seismic Research Centre has advised persons to exercise caution when crossing river valleys on La Soufriere Volcano, due to the increased risk of lahars or mudflows during periods of rainfall on the volcano.
