Plan, Prepare, Perform – United States Supports SVG Volcano Response Share this post: THE U.S. government has mobilized a multi-tier, interagency approach to bring much needed relief to the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) recently announced an increase of US$100,000 in disaster relief for people affected by violent eruptions of the La Soufrière volcano. Partnering with the St. Vincent Red Cross, USAID will fund the distribution of emergency food and relief supplies including hygiene kits, fuel, mattresses, and portable stoves. This announcement follows the US$40,000 in USAID assistance that fuelled vehicles to evacuate Vincentians living in the Red Zones and helped the St. Vincent Red Cross stand up their emergency evacuation centers immediately after the increased seismic activity. Sagicor hands over supplies to NEMO  Article by April 21, 2021 KINGSTOWN – The misfortune occasioned by Mother Nature that has befallen St Vincent and the Grenadines, has seen many show their civic-mindedness in rendering much-needed assistance to that Caribbean nation. In an immediate show of support for the people of the island following the recent eruption of the La Soufriere volcano, Sagicor pledged a donation of emergency supplies to assist with relief efforts in the drive to help get citizens back on their feet. The first share of these supplies was presented to the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) on the morning of Thursday, April 15, by Stanley Browne, Sagicor’s general agent and principal representative in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Social Worker in the Ministry of Health Rozelle Solomon said this support will go a long way toward ensuring that these persons are mentally stable during this unsettling period. She noted that each citizen has a role to  play in supporting persons who may be traumatized. Miss Solomon also commended those who are already out in the various communities, doing their best to help.
