Thomas Gallatin On the eve of the Senate’s second impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump, here’s a look at his legal team’s defense. The first and most important point Trump’s lawyers are expected to argue is the unprecedented and unconstitutional nature of the Democrats’ impeachment gambit. Trump’s legal team asserts, “The Senate of the United States lacks jurisdiction over the 45th President because he holds no public office from which he can be removed, and the Constitution limits the authority of the Senate in cases of impeachment to removal from office as the prerequisite active remedy allowed the Senate under our Constitution.” Call it the “By what authority?” defense.

GoLocalProv | Raimondo s Record as Governor: The Good, Bad and Ugly

BAD: Deloitte Sponsorship Just days after blasting UHIP consultant Deloitte, Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo spoke at a conference in California sponsored by Deloitte.  We paid them a lot of money, we didn’t get what we paid for, Raimondo said at the time of Deloitte s involvement in the UHIP debacle. And they represented to us that it was in much better shape than in fact it was: defective functionality, incomplete interfaces, engines that still aren’t working. Days later, Raimondo was en route to headline the Deloitte-sanctioned event.  Deloitte is not paying for any of the travel, said Raimondo spokesperson David Ortiz. She had already committed to be at the event, and was able to have a private conversation with the CEO of Deloitte Consulting, who committed to being in regular communication with the Governor.

Federal indictment alleges Missouri lawmaker illegally prescribed narcotics, marketed stem cell scheme by John Haughey, The Center Square  | February 03, 2021 12:00 PM Print this article A federal grand jury Monday unsealed a 20-count indictment against state Rep. Tricia Derges, R-Nixa, for allegedly selling fake stem cell treatments at three southwest Missouri clinics. According to U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri Tim Garrison’s office in Kansas City, Derges is accused of marketing “treatments” with amniotic fluid, illegally prescribing narcotics between 2018-20 and lying to federal agents. “This defendant abused her privileged position to enrich herself through deception,” Garrison said. “The indictment alleges she lied to her patients and she lied to federal agents. As an elected official and a health care provider, she deserves to be held to a high standard.”
