State cites noncompliance in North Chelmsford sewer main break
Wicked Local
CHELMSFORD The state has cited the town for violation of sewer regulations compliance, following a March 2020 sewer main break at the Southwell pump station in North Chelmsford.
However, town officials are criticizing the state s response, including some requirements of a consent order, and an unspecified fine amount.
Public Works Director Gary Persichetti and Town Manager Paul Cohen gave an update at the May 24 Select Board meeting.
Persichetti said a meeting between town officials and the Department of Environmental Protection regarding the noncompliance notice is set for June 30. It s a little disturbing, Cohen said. A year ago.weere out in the field with the Department of Environmental Protection and [pump station contract operator] Sampson and Wesson, and weren t given a heads-up, saying, Hey, you can expect an enforcement letter in a year or so.

A local outfitter will provide kayaks to Kiski River Sweep volunteers on Saturday so they can cover about a 5-mile stretch of the river from North Vandergrift to Leechburg.
For about a decade, the River’s Edge Canoe and Kayak rental in Gilpin has been offering up its vessels for volunteers to scour the river banks for litter, said John Linkes, a long-time volunteer who has led the Kiski River Sweep for about 20 years. The Kiski Watershed Association is coordinating the event.
Governor Ron DeSantis Signs Bill to Bolster Biscayne Bay On June 3, 2021, in News Releases, by Staff
KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. – Today, Governor Ron DeSantis signed House Bill 1177, which strengthens coordination efforts to protect Biscayne Bay, a critical ecological, recreational, and economic asset to Southeast Florida.
House Bill 1177 calls for the creation of a commission dedicated to Biscayne Bay which will be tasked with bringing federal, state, and regional stakeholders to the table to strengthen ongoing efforts to protect the bay. The commission’s first order of business will be to review and consolidate existing programs and projects into a strategic plan for bay improvement. This legislation and the accompanying $20 million in the Fiscal Year 2021-22 budget will build on the momentum generated by the $20 million investment announced by the Governor and Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Cava in December of 2020.
