The owners of Pensacola Beach’s Best Western plan to tear down the entire hotel and rebuild a larger-scale resort after Hurricane Sally damage proved too much to repair.
The hotel has been closed since the hurricane in September, but its parent company, Innisfree Hotels, went to the Santa Rosa Island Authority Wednesday night to request a density increase and a waiver of a roughly $320,000 consideration fee for the change.
Innisfree staff haven’t released many details about the plans for the new site the more complete designs likely will be up for approval by the island authority at a later date but the company’s vice president of development and asset management, Rich Chism, said the increase from 30 to 50 units per acre would allow for a higher resort-style standard of development.
Three new legal salvos this week were fired over the bow of a proposed taproom and retail beer sales operation on Town Neck Road.
Boston attorney Daniel J. Bailey III has filed complaints with the Massachusetts Office of Public Safety and Inspection and the Sandwich Conservation Commission alleging that a building permit should not have been issued to Tree House Brewing Company.
Tree Houseâs proposed business is located within a flood zone and a protected coastal wetland resource area, Mr. Bailey said in his letter to the state public safety officeâs board of appeals.
Mr. Bailey said he is bringing the complaint on behalf of four couples who live on Freeman Avenue, which is adjacent to the proposed taproom and beer distribution site.
So when can residents do outdoor watering, and when should they refrain?
Under the less restrictive ban, residents may do outdoor watering with
hand-held hoses or oscillating lawn sprinklers attached to a hose on an
odd-even schedule, starting May 1. So, if you live at an even-numbered address, you can do outdoor watering including wetting lawns and gardens, and washing activities on even-numbered days. And if you live at an odd-numbered address, you get the odd-numbered days.
Watering, however,
can only be done between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. a time frame that not only avoids peak daytime usage hours inside homes and businesses, but also ensures water gets into the ground and not into the air through evaporation in summer s heat.

For much of the past three years, they lived in fear of their water.
After buying a home in Chelsea, Nathan Seavey and his wife learned their water pipes were lined with lead, and replacing them would cost thousands of dollars. Even though they had a newborn, they resigned themselves to live with it, filtering whatever they drank and relying on the cityâs assurances that their water was safe.
âMy wife was terrified, and there were a lot of tears,â said Seavey, 39, whose wife recently gave birth to another son. âWe had no idea when we bought, and it was really disappointing and frustrating to learn that there are still so many lead pipes.â
