The Presidency has intensified disinfection operations at the Grand Mosque in Makkah.
MAKKAH The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, represented by the Department of Environmental Protection and Epidemic Control, has intensified disinfection operations at the Grand Mosque in Makkah.
The drive has seen the Presidency use 10,000 liters of environmentally friendly detergents to sterilize and create an environment free of epidemics.
The Director of the Environmental Protection and Epidemic Control Department Hassan Al-Suwairi said that more than 70 field teams work around the clock to sterilize the Grand Mosque and its facilities.

The town of Wayland issued a statement last week regarding the presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the town’s water supply.
PFAS are a group of chemical compounds used in a variety of industrial processes since the 1940s, including the production of carpets, clothing, fabrics for furniture, paper packaging for food and other common household materials.
While consumer products and food are the largest source of exposure to these chemicals for most people, drinking water can be an additional source of exposure.
PFAS in drinking water has become an emerging issue nationwide. On Oct. 2, the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) issued its public drinking water standard of 20 nanograms per liter or parts per trillion for six PFAS, which DEP abbreviates as PFAS6.

In a nutshell, Assembly Bill 4843 and its Senate companion, S-3549, would require municipalities and nonprofit organizations that use state Green Acres funds to acquire forestland for parks or recreation to create and implement a “forest stewardship plan” if the property is 25 acres or larger. If the state itself is the buyer, the Department of Environmental Protection would be required to develop the stewardship plan.

Wayland will be offering bottled water at the Transfer Station on Wednesday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at the Wayland Public Safety Building for pregnant women, nursing mothers, infants, and people with compromised immune systems, following the discovery of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the town’s water supply.
On Feb. 4, Wayland was notified that test results from January 2021 showed a contaminant level in excess of the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) maximum of 20 parts per trillion at the town s Happy Hollow well field, according to Town Administrator Louise Miller.
PFAS are a group of chemicals used in many industrial processes, Miller reported at the Board of Selectmen s meeting on April 5, and appear in many consumer products, such as waterproof coats, dental floss and pizza boxes.
