Solar Project Deals with Bad Surprise

The Old Middleboro Road Solar array project came up for discussion in the Rochester Conservation Commission meeting held on February 16. Though the project has already entered the construction phase, development has come to a halt after issues relating to the ancient way bordering the site were raised.
Austin Turner, representing the project, explained that due to faulty survey data of the area, a previously plotted ancient way noted in the plans had been drastically misrepresented. Turner explained that where it was previously believed that the ancient way would fork and travel around the site, the reality is that the ancient way runs directly into the proposed area of work.

SOUTH DEERFIELD A complaint has been filed to appeal the Zoning Board of Appeals’ decision to approve a special permit with conditions for the proposed development of a Dollar General store on Routes 5 and 10, at the intersection of Mill Village Road.
The ZBA’s vote of approval was taken Feb. 3, with Chair Bernie Sadoski, members Robert Decker III and Adam Sokoloski, and alternate Alex Herchendreder voting in favor of granting the permit; and member John Stobierski voting against it. The vote followed months of contentious debate between board members and the public.
The Sheetz in Moon Township will have four fast-charging plugs for electric vehicles courtesy of a $250,000 grant from the state Department of Environmental Protection. The agency announced $936,000 in grants on Friday for 16 more fast chargers in high-traffic areas to make electric vehicles more readily available to consumers.
