E coli contamination drinking water Natick PFAS

NATICK – One source of Natick’s public drinking water is shut down after a sample tested positive for E. coli, according to a statement issued by town officials. This development follows PFAS contamination detected earlier this year in one of the town’s public water sources – the Springvale H & T water treatment plant. The Elm Bank Wells are turned off after a routine water sample taken on Tuesday showed potential contamination that could be linked to human or animal waste. That specific water sample was untreated water. Natick’s water is disinfected with chlorine to kill viruses and bacteria, including E. coli, the statement said. The announcement stressed that no fecal contaminants were detected in the town’s chemically treated drinking water.

Estero Village Council approved new school at Three Oaks Parkway and Corkscrew Road

The land-use change was sent to various state agencies, including the Department of Environmental Protection and Department of Transportation, for approval in May. The state OK’d the project with a suggestion for stronger wetland protections. There are a few acres of “high- and medium-quality wetlands” on the site, and village officials want to preserve what is left, Community Development Director Mary Gibbs said. The site has more spots of “low-quality wetlands” that flourished years ago. The source flowways were cut off after Interstate 75 was built decades ago, and the wetlands deteriorated to what they are today. Parts of the school grounds will be open for public use in exchange for removing the low-quality wetlands. No details are in place, but it could mean public parks or athletic fields.
