(WKBT) New Department of Workforce Development Secretary-designee Amy Pechacek announced Wednesday that the department has cleared its backlog of regular unemployment insurance claims. The announcement came just after Gov. Tony Evers appointed Pechacek to the position. She had been leading the agency as transition director since Evers asked for and received the resignation of former secretary Caleb Frostman in September. “The DWD has faced historic levels of claims, hindered by antiquated technology and burdensome bureaucracy created by those who always intended to make it harder for folks to access these vital benefits.
