Six workers at two Minnesota motor vehicle deputy registrar officers were found to have improperly accessed driver and vehicle data.
This unauthorized access was uncovered by the Department of Public Safety Driver and Vehicle Services Division (DPS-DVS), after incidents at the two motor vehicle title and registration offices led to audits, the agency said Wednesday. All of the individuals in question (one of whom is now a former employee) are permanently barred from accessing driver and vehicle data, a step required by Minnesota law, DPS said in an announcement.

FAIRFAX, Minn. The Fairfax Deputy Registrar s office has been closed after the only two employees had their access to driver and vehicle data revoked for illegally accessing driver and vehicle data, according to a Minnesota Department of Public Safety Driver and Vehicle Services Division news release.
According to the release, an audit found seven instances in which both users accessed Driver and Vehicle Services data without a lawful business purpose. The deputy registrars who had their access revoked have not been formally charged with a crime.
New online tool aims to help Minnesotans get REAL ID faster

(FOX 9) - Minnesotans have a few years to get their REAL ID, but the state s Department of Public Safety Driver and Vehicle Services is trying to make the process easier by adding online tools.
According to DPS, Minnesotans now have until May 3, 2023, to be REAL ID ready, but many will decide whether to apply for a REAL ID or enhanced driver’s license or ID when they renew their driver’s license or ID card in the coming months.
Officials recommend using the online Help Me Choose tool to select the best license or ID type for their needs. You can also pre-apply online to save time during the office visit. Residents also have the option to submit their required documents online for pre-verification before they visit an office, saving you an extra trip.
