A team of staff from Sirumugai forest range spotted the tuskers at Pommalapalayam village at around 6 a.m. on Friday. Two male elephants strayed into a village near Annur in Coimbatore district and attacked two cows on Friday morning, causing panic among the residents.
According to officials from the Forest Department, a team of staff from Sirumugai forest range spotted the tuskers at Pommalapalayam village at around 6 a.m. on Friday. These two elephants were already spotted on Thursday night and were sent back to Pethikuttai reserve forest, but had ventured outside again on Friday, the officials said.

Union ministry of AYUSH and the Department of Animal Husbandry on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for research on new formulations in quality drugs for veterinary applications.
The National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), under the ministry of AYUSH signed the MoU with the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying for research on new herbs-based formulations in quality drugs for veterinary applications.
The initiative involves capacity building in related areas through training, exploring marketing possibilities for herbal veterinary medicines on a sustainable basis and providing for services, including cultivation, preservation and conservation of medicinal plants.

The State government has announced a ban on marine fishing for 61 days, from April 15 to June 14, in the territorial waters of A.P. for effective fishery resources and conservation of marine biodiversity.
As per the guidelines of the Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, to impose uniform ban on fishing by all fishing vessels in the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), the regulatory orders were issued.
Accordingly, fishing is prohibited by all mechanised vessels and fishing crafts fitted with outboard as well as inboard engine (motorised fishing boats). However, the traditional non-motorised boats are exempted from the ban.
