CBJ reports COVID case count, eyes raising community risk level

Public Health attributes two cases to secondary transmission, one to community spread, and two are under investigation. CBJ says the daily new cases so far this month have been higher than previous weeks. If the trend continues, the Emergency Operations Center may elevate the community risk level to Level 2 Moderate. Some recent positive cases are being attributed to spring break travel. One of the new cases today is an individual at Harborview Elementary School. Exposure was limited to one classroom and instruction for that class is being moved to distance delivery. Other classes and school programs at Harborview are operating normally.

Five finalists to be considered for principal positions, interviews open to public

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Juneau School District will be conducting online interviews on March 17 with five candidates for two elementary school principal positions. Harborview Elementary School and Auke Bay Elementary School are both searching for a principal. Three of the finalists are hopeful to get either position, while two are trying for one. 2 new COVID cases related to Juneau schools, in-person instruction not impacted

How the individuals acquired the virus is under investigation.   Of the 12 new cases reported yesterday for February 13-16, two are from the Juneau School District – an individual at Harborview Elementary School and an individual at Juneau-Douglas High School. Contact tracing of both individuals did not reveal any close contacts within the schools. In-person instruction has not been impacted at either school.     37 are residents and three are nonresidents. The state also reports one death – a male Anchorage resident in his 60s – bringing the total number of resident deaths to 286.
