Mar. 13 Amid recent federal and state announcements of accelerated timelines for COVID-19 vaccinations and reopening the economy and schools, Pierce County is continuing to adapt its own systems to keep up.
Adding call center access for those without computers, improving the technical side of registering and sending information to the state, and improving the flow through the mass vaccination clinics have all been ongoing works of progress.
According to Kayla Scrivner, immunization branch director for the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department: We re adding more and more staff to that call center and have been capturing and tracking that . And through social media, if people reach out to us, we make sure they know about future events, or if they ve had trouble registering

Feb. 15 More people are using a Pierce County hotel set aside for those with COVID-19 than ever before, but homeless service providers have said those with mental or behavioral health illnesses have faced difficulty getting in the door.
Pierce County s Temporary Care Center opened in April last year at the Holiday Inn on South 84th and Hosmer streets in Tacoma. As of Jan. 26, 436 people had been admitted. January 2021 alone saw more than 158 people stay there.

Jan. 26 There were whoops, honking and sighs of relief as the first of 1,700 people got their COVID-19 vaccinations in a free mass clinic Tuesday morning Pierce County s first. People are happy, Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department nurse Carolyn Cook said. They re very happy to be vaccinated.

Jan. 22 The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department on Friday announced its first free mass vaccination clinics.
People who are in either Phase 1A and 1B Tier 1 are offered spots by appointment only for two drive-thru clinics, a partnership of MultiCare Health System, Pierce County Department of Emergency Management, Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department and Virginia Mason Franciscan Health.
Registration, which is required for both events, is at form.jotform.com/210194954540152. The first clinic will be at Clover Park Technical College, 4500 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 26. Enter at both Steilacoom Boulevard entrances and get directed to vaccination site.
