The Trigg County Sheriff’s Office is working with Kentucky State Police as they investigate an officer-involved shooting that happened on Gold Dust Trail in Trigg County Thursday morning.
Trigg County Sheriff Aaron Acree says they are fully cooperating with Kentucky State Police as they investigate the shooting and will be addressing the community after the facts of the case have been released.
Acree says deputies were at the home on Thursday for an attempt to locate when the man picked up a 2×4 piece of wood and tried to hit the deputy.
The deputy then reportedly fired his service weapon hitting the man.
Kentucky State Police investigating officer involved shooting in Trigg County
UPDATE: 3:25 p.m.
The Kentucky State Police (KSP) was requested by the Trigg County Sheriff s Office to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. Thursday.
Initial investigation shows Trigg County deputies attempted to serve an arrest warrant at a home on Gold Dust Trail in Rockcastle, Kentucky.
Deputies made contact with the wanted man, who resisted officers arrest attempts. A deputy responded by discharging his weapon, striking and wounding the suspect.
The deputy immediately provided medical care to the male until Trigg County EMS personnel responded. He was taken to the Trigg County Hospital and then airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Sumner thanked all of his staff for the hard work they put in each day and added there had been so many good things to happen at the hospital over the last five years.
Sumner also thanked Trigg County Fiscal Court for the things they have done to help improve the hospital.
