AIMEE VICTORIA HALL, 26, of 227 S. Linden Ave. in Alliance, was arrested at 6:40 p.m. Jan. 6, 2021, at East Broadway and South Freedom in Alliance. Police report Hall was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped when an officer noticed her in the vehicle. Police report Hall was actively wanted on a warrant out of Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear for an OVI charge from October 2020. When officers stopped the vehicle, they reported that Hall attempted to hide a backpack in the back seat. Police found approximately 27 grams of methamphetamine in 3 separate baggies; a digital scale with residue; baggies; and a glass bubble pipe with residue. Police report Hall had the items in a box with large magnets, used to conceal the box on metal items, such as motor vehicles. The report says Hall declined a voluntary drug screen. NEWCOMERSTOWN A family of five is building a new home with support from the community after fire destroyed their previous residence on New Year s Day.
Although Jessica and Glenn Clarke lost their possessions except for two dogs along with the double-wide modular home, they know the outcome could have been far worse.
Firefighters had cleared them to return to the home after believing they had extinguished the fire on New Year s Eve. But since they had no heat, Jessica and Glenn decided to spend the night in his parents nearby house with their children Emma, 5, Rowan, 4 and Sara 2. They didn t expect the fire to re-ignite.

SIDNEY The year 2020 was a year unlike one that Shelby County residents had never experienced in their lifetime. The year had individual events which changed lives but non like the coronavirus pandemic which started in March and continues to today.

COVID-19 pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic dominated the news cycle and affected lives more than few, if any, events ever have.
The Sidney-Shelby County Health Department has reported more than 3,000 cases of COVID-19 in the county. More than 100 residents have been hospitalized because of the virus, and there have been 18 confirmed deaths. At times Shelby County had one of the state’s highest incidence rates.
NEW PHILADELPHIA A 35-year-old Dover man implicated in a series of thefts from storage units has been found guilty in three cases.
Brian L. Smith, Jr., pleaded no contest to charges of receiving stolen property, criminal mischief, breaking and entering, theft, grand theft of a firearm, and forgery on Dec. 15. Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Judge Edward O Farrell then found him guilty.
The judge gave Smith credit for seven months spent in the Tuscarawas County jail, where he remains. He ordered restitution of $6,350 be paid to one man, and $134 be paid to the Heritage Country Store, 1062 W. High Ave.
Sentencing on charges in eight additional cases is scheduled for Jan. 19 before Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Judge Elizabeth Lehigh Thomakos.
