Suzanne Whedon, a Darien resident, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021, in the Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick.
She had been ill for sometime with Parkinson’s Disease. She and her husband Tony Whedon had split their time between Darien and Montgomery, Vermont, where they lived most of their lives.
With degrees in Social Work and Education, Suzanne had worked as a freelance writer, adjunct writing instructor at Johnson State College, social director for the Abenaki Nation, farm worker, and Vermont homesteader. At the time of her death, she was completing a novel, part of which was published in the Massachusetts Review, and was nominated by Joyce Carol Oates for a Pushcart Prize.

The briefing focused mainly on the broad range of challenges facing the laboratory community, such as reagent shortages and increased testing throughput. During one portion, however, speakers discussed risks faced personally by pathologists and technicians the tens of thousands of people who process specimens, maintain equipment, and manage testing supplies in the heat of the pandemic, but do so namelessly and unseen.
