The Rome News-Tribune on the removal of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest’s statue: The City of Rome recently removed a statue of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest from a prominent place at Myrtle Hill Cemetery. In light of social issues that have swept the nation in recent months, the statue - and others like it - have become points of contention. They have become a physical thing which continue to breed division. We believe the statue’s removal from Myrtle Hill Cemetery was the right decision by the city. We recognize, more than most, the importance of preserving history and of educating the community. The city is not trying to “erase” history with this statue’s removal.

Southeast Georgia counties halt vaccine appointments Updated: Tags: BRUNSWICK, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Public Health on Thursday reported 5,969 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19. Of those cases, 85 were reported in the six Southeast Georgia counties tracked by News4Jax. During a news conference on Thursday, Gov. Brian Kemp said the state’s hospitals are using emergency capacity. Kemp said the state is not expanding vaccination criteria. Brunswick Police report gunfire injures woman inside her home

By Tyler Jacobs Jan 13, 2021 Late Tuesday night a 46-year-old woman in Brunswick was struck and suffered a gunshot while inside her home off of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Police say her home had come under fire twice that night. The woman told police that a window and vehicle in the front yard were struck by bullets around 7:30 p.m. Responding police found several shell casings at the scene. The woman called police again at around 11:30 p.m. to report that she was shot while inside her home, police reported. After securing the scene and rendering aid to the woman, police again found several shell casings at the scene.
