EAST ST. LOUIS An insurance carrier for Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) is seeking reimbursement from a co-insurer in the settlement of a rape case.
Arch Insurance Company filed a complaint May 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois East St. Louis Division against Catlin Indemnity Company, alleging failure to defend and indemnify.
According to the complaint, Arch advised Catlin on June 20, 2020, of an upcoming mediation in the case Peggy Kachadorian v. Metro-East Transit District of St. Clair County, doing business as St. Clair County Transit District. According to Arch s complaint, the case involved Kachadorian seeking damages for her rape that occurred on a bus tied to SWIC, due to SWIC s contract with Metro-East Transit District. Arch claims SWIC holds a commercial general liability policy and that it provided a defense to SWIC in the case. The rape suit allegedly resulted in an $865,000 settlement with Arch

Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), joined by Heartland Community College and Rivian, have announced an investment to build two advanced manufacturing training academies to expand training for high-demand manufacturing jobs in Illinois. A $15 million capital investment through the Governor’s bipartisan Rebuild Illinois capital plan will establish two downstate manufacturing training academies that will provide hundreds of Illinois residents the opportunity to develop specialized skills for a career in advanced manufacturing.

NORMAL, Ill. (AP) – Illinois will spend $15 million on two academies that will train hundreds of workers in advanced manufacturing skills, with the first students enrolling later this year. Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s office said the advanced manufacturing academies will be located at Heartland Community College in the central Illinois community of Normal and at Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville, near St. Louis. The $15 million comes from Illinois’ capital plan. Other funding will come from regional partners and employers such as Rivian, which has an electronic vehicle assembly plant in Normal.
