SVMC To Hold Online COVID-19 Information Session

BENNINGTON, Vt. Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC), part of Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC), and Bennington s office of the Vermont Department of Health will appear in a digital information session regarding the COVID-19 vaccine distribution at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 19.   The event is made possible with cooperation from CAT-TV and the Southwestern Vermont Chamber of Commerce. Members of the public are invited to view and ask questions during the live broadcast at www.facebook.com/CATTVbennington/. The program will also air on CAT-TV s public channel 1075.   The session will feature SVMC s Chief Medical Officer Trey Dobson and Bennington s Public Health Services District Director for the Vermont Department of Health Megan Herrington. They will discuss the status of a community vaccine clinic and answer questions. The Chamber s Executive Director Matthew Harrington will moderate.

The Board will meet on Jan. 25 to adopt the budget and sign the Annual Town Meeting Warning. The General Fund which includes all administrative offices, the Police Department, Recreation and all agencies receiving funds from the town by being placed in the budget (the two libraries, Rescue Squad, North Bennington Recreation, and Lake Paran) is increased only 2.19 percent. The Highway Fund is increased only 0.33 percent and the Fire Fund (the Bennington Fire Department) is decreased 0.17 percent. Combined, the total increase is 1.58 percent. The estimated tax rate for the combined budgets ranges from $1.2675 to $1.2710 depending on Grand List growth and other revenues. This is an increase of just over 2 percent.

The Checkup for Jan 15: 1 new death, 142 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Vermont

THE NUMBERS One Vermonter died of COVID-19 over the past day, the Vermont Department of Health reported Friday. The death toll is now at 163. Forty-four Vermonters are hospitalized with the disease, and six of those patients are in intensive care units. The department reported 142 new cases of COVID-19 in Vermont on Friday. The cumulative total reported is 9,734, which is 161 higher than the total reported Thursday. The health department did not explain the discrepancy. Eleven of Vermont’s 14 counties reported new cases. Chittenden County had 44; Windsor County had 22; Bennington County had 19; Washington County had 15; Addison County had 10; Rutland County had nine; Franklin and Lamoille counties each had six; Windham County had five; and Essex and Orleans counties each had three. Caledonia, Grand Isle and Orange counties reported no new cases.
