St Helens couple are the first to receive Covid jab at mass vaccination hub

Sarah Platt THE first patients to be vaccinated at St Helens rugby league club s stadium on the day it became a NHS Mass Vaccination Centre in Cheshire & Merseyside have spoken about getting the Covid-19 jab. The large-scale vaccination facility which opened its doors this morning at the Totally Wicked Stadium will be able to deliver thousands of Covid-19 vaccines every week as part of the national vaccination programme. The venue has been launched in addition to already established GP-led and hospital vaccine services. GP-led clinics had been vaccinating loc al people at the stadium over the past few weeks - but Monday marked its first day as as a mass regional centre.

Covid-19 admissions are still surging at Whiston Hospital

Whiston Hospital COVID admissions are still surging at Whiston Hospital, as infection rates begin to fall across the region. A desperate plea was made to the public last week, as it was revealed Whiston Hospital was treating more Covid patients than at any point in the pandemic. As of last Wednesday, 168 inpatients were being treated for the effects of Covid-19 at the hospital, higher than the previous record of 153 in April. Since them, admissions have continued to rise at an alarming pace, surpassing 22 by the end of the week. As of Monday, 239 Covid-positive patients had been admitted into the hospital, according to a St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust spokesman.
