Evaluating a competency assessment framework for ANPs

Innovation 10 May, 2021 A competency assessment framework for advanced nurse practitioners was developed for an acute medical unit, and assessed by advanced nurse practitioners and consultants Abstract Advanced nurse practitioners play a vital role in delivering high-quality care to patients attending the acute medical unit and must be highly skilled and competent. In the absence of national standards, a structured competency assessment framework was developed and its usefulness then evaluated in a teaching hospital. The framework was found to offer direction and articulation of the advanced practitioner role. It also provided documented evidence of competence development that adheres to the clinical governance strategy and sets a minimum standard that can act as a benchmark.
