3 Min Read Published on: 11 hours ago Pastor Chua Banaag born July 26, 1909, to Benito Chua and Emilia Banaag in Siniloan, Laguna was a church leader and religious freedom advocate in the Philippines. 1 His parents named him “Pastor” because his mother hoped that he would become a gospel minister. His early life was characterized by the constant encouragement and Christian modeling of a godly mother. While a teen, he would come home from his work as a stenographer at the Everett Steamship Lines on Sabbath afternoons to attend the Trozo Adventist church’s young people’s meetings. There he was befriended by Jose Herrera, Antonio Abawag, and Eliseo Arevalo. Their friendship, and later the prayers and influence of his wife, Rosario, played major roles in his conversion to Seventh-day Adventism in 1934.

South Philippines Church Region Votes on a Request to Split in Two

2 Min Read Published on: 3 hours ago A recently concluded special constituency meeting of the South Philippine Union Conference (SPUC) voted to split the territory into two distinct union organizations. The church work in the SPUC territory is growing rapidly, and it demands more close supervision, monitoring, quick assessment, and evaluation, regional leaders said. They reported that as the second-largest island of the Philippines, Mindanao has 97,530 square kilometers (37,660 square miles) of land area. “Since its organization in 1964, it remains a vast challenge for travel from one end to another, not to mention the staggering distance and traffic conditions, despite the opening of new highways and bypass roads,” leaders reported. “The splitting of the territory into two organizations, therefore, is the best option to fulfill the mission of the church.”
