Madeline Nicole Barber is a junior business administration major from Gilmer, TX Kaylee Breanne Fyffe is a senior university studies major from Gilmer, TX Glenna Vhae Langford is a junior elementary education K-6 STEM major from Gilmer, TX Kailey Breann Leuschner is a junior business administration major from Gilmer, TX Brooke Nicole Shipp is a senior engineering-physics major with a minor in mathematics from Gilmer, TX A total of 426 students were honored on this semester s President s List.

The Gilmer Mirror  | 18    MAGNOLIA, AR (12/16/2020) Southern Arkansas University has announced that 577 students earned a 3.5 for the fall 2020 semester and have been named to its Dean s List. Joshua B. Lipscomb is a sophomore pre-health major from Gilmer, TX. Antwanette Dezeray Oliver is a junior sport management major from Gilmer, TX. Jeorjia Elaine Puckett is a freshman elementary education K-6 major from Gilmer, TX. A total of 577 students were honored on this semester s Dean s List. SAU feels like home and continues to build on its dedication to student achievement and success in a caring atmosphere, both on campus and online. With more than 80 degrees in four distinct colleges and the School of Graduate Studies, SAU initiates new degree programs to fit the needs of career and professional trends of today.

Former SAU student state s New Ag Instructor of the Year

Caroline Lester of Westside High School in Jonesboro received the honor from the Arkansas Farm Bureau. Lester earned the top new ag instructor award for her work at Westside, where she has 208 students involved. Eighty students are also members of the school’s FFA program. “Here at Westside we’re really fortunate to have a lot of community support.” Lester said when receiving the award from Arkansas Farm Bureau’s Senior Education Coordinator Matt Jackson. “I appreciate the support my peers have given me,” she said. Lester, originally from Vilonia, graduated from SAU in May 2017 with a bachelor of science in agriculture education. She received a master s degree in agriculture in 2020. While at SAU, she was involved in the Agri Club, Collegiate FFA and Sigma Alpha.

Today’s current top story salutes Southern Arkansas University graduate Caroline Lester, who graduated in May 2017 and who was just named the Arkansas Farm Bureau’s 2020 Outstanding New Ag Instructor of the Year. We received the Farm Bureau’s annual educators’ award list on Monday. We weren’t familiar with the names on the list but know from past experience that if the Farm Bureau is handing out awards, there’s probably an SAU graduate there somewhere. So, we dispatched an inquiry to Dr. Jeffry Miller, chair of the SAU Department of Agriculture. Came back the message, “Caroline Lester graduated from SAU! She is one of the best students we had during my time at SAU.” We obtained additional details and included them in today’s article. We hear it all the time from the SAU Ag Department – public schools and ag-related businesses across the region literally scream for SAU students with ag-related business or education degrees.
