EDWARDSVILLE The pandemic has forced many educators to teach in a virtual format. While not ideal in many cases, the lifelong learners and influencers continue to lead by example and persevere for their students through challenging times.
At Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Educational Administration graduate students are juggling those adjustments at their day job, and simultaneously learning remotely themselves as they pursue an advanced degree.

A longtime educator, community leader and the “Dean of Politics” in East St. Louis has died. He had been fighting the novel coronavirus, according to those who knew him.
Eddie Lee Jackson Sr. served in the Illinois House of Representatives for eight years after retiring from a lengthy career as a science teacher and administrator in East St. Louis School District 189. He sat on the East St. Louis City Council for 20 years and is the father of Emeka Jackson-Hicks, the city’s former mayor.

EDWARDSVILLE For Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, the key to a successful return for the spring semester is all about COVID-19 testing.
SIUE’s plans for the spring semester include implementing mandatory COVID-19 testing for students, faculty and staff on campus and hiring contact tracers.
The spring semester will start on Tuesday, Jan. 19, with University Housing beginning operations on Jan. 14.

Artist Rocky Pardo knew from an early age she wanted to work with jewelry. âAs a little girl, Iâd go with my mom into James Durbin, the jewelry store our family liked, and Iâd be in there with all the beautiful things and thought: This is what I want to do,â she says.
She credits her motherâs love of unique fine jewelry, and her fatherâs encouragement of their love of jewelry, as the spark for her career success. She earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in metalsmithing from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
