Grants committee acts on renter/landlord aid

EDWARDSVILLE Madison County may seek up to $7.8 million in emergency rental assistance from the U.S. Treasury Department.
Members at Monday’s Grants Committee meeting authorize a grant application for the federal Emergency Rental Assistance Program available to qualifying governments with a population of 200,000 or more. The grants are designed to give rental assistance to both renters and landlords; Madison County Community Development would represent the county.
Illinois has issued moratoriums on evictions, which has created hardships for landlords not getting paid. As the moratoriums expire, there has been concern that subsequent evictions could create a great deal of hardship.

Campus is hosting How Healers Became Killers, Nazi Medical Professionals, to commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Wednesday, January 27. The program also is the opening event of the new featured exhibit, Deadly Medicine: Creating the Master Race, which opens January 17 and is slated to run until July 11, 2021.

The Richland Community College Foundation has elected three new members to join its Board of Directors.
Nikki Garry, Jeff Dase and Stacey Young will each serve a 2.5 year term which began on January 1, 2020. They attended their first quarterly Foundation Board Meeting this month, joining fellow Foundation Board Members Mark Avery, Jim Schroeder, Nicole Bateman, Stephen Clevenger, Julie Brilley, Joseph Brown, Sally Duncan, Jason Herman, Matt Naber, Trent Thompson, Matt Whitehead, Dawn Yuhas, Myung Kim and Joseph Schrodt.

2MeOE2 induces apoptosis in ovarian cancer cells, indicates study
Oncotarget published The pro-apoptotic actions of 2-methoxyestradiol against ovarian cancer involve catalytic activation of PKCδ signaling which reported that the authors have previously shown that a flaxseed-supplemented diet decreases both the incidence and severity of ovarian cancer in laying hens, also induces CYP1A1 expression in liver.
Recently, they have shown that as a biologically derived active component of flax diet, 2MeOE2 induces apoptosis in ovarian cancer cells which is partially dependent on p38 MAPK. The objective of this Oncotarget study was to elucidate the molecular mechanism of actions of 2MeOE2, a known microtubule disrupting agent, in inducing apoptosis in ovarian tumors.
