In a statement on Wednesday, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson expressed disappointment and regret that Japan s political leaders repeatedly make offerings to the shrine that holds war criminals.

Report: Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga on Wednesday sent a ritual offering to the controversial Yasukuni Shrine where 14 Class-A war criminals are enshrined.
While Suga sent “masakaki” leaves for the second time since taking office last September, his predecessor, Shinzo Abe, personally visited the shrine, widely regarded by South Korea and China as a reminder of Japan’s World War Two atrocities.
