The Southern District Health Board welcomed its largest cohort of nursing graduates ever this year. Those completing their Nursing Entry to Practice Programme at Southland were welcomed at a formal ceremony. The Southern District Health Board has welcomed its largest intake of nursing graduates with 121 new nurses now working across services in Southland and Otago. The cohort brings welcome relief to the health board, which identified its nurse shortage as one of the biggest pinch points when looking for solutions to bed blocks
Vaughn Fisher said they were mostly “the remnants” of the wars between Kāti Māmoe and Ngāi Tahu, which were well blended by the later 19th century. Paororo s gravestone in itself, is indication of his standing, Fisher said, given it was still a mostly western practice at the time. He is credited as a chief of the Kāti Māmoe and Ngāi Tahu tribes, as well as the Kati Huirapa and Kahea hapū. Paororo was also listed as the chief of the Aparima kaik during the 1853 Māori census, and worked with the principal chiefs on the sale of Murihiku, and later, Rakiura.
The organisation running NZ’s 16 polytechs has been branded an “old boys’ club” as one of its council members is also a director of two of the polytechs.

This year’s attendees at the Burt Munro Challenge were
entertained by an array of rising musical talent, treated to
performances from bands made up of Southern Institute of
Technology (SIT) Music students. The annual event provided a
perfect platform for students, who seized the opportunity to
increase their live performing experience and to play to a
different audience.
