(WALB) - A 78-year-old college student is redefining what it means to have a “senior moment.” One month before her 79th birthday, Helen King just completed her very first semester at Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC). King said college was not a consideration when she was younger. However, after a decade into retirement, she figured it was time to take on a new task. After a lifetime of caring for others, joining the healthcare field felt like a natural fit and King soon registered for SRTC’s certified nursing aide program.

Staff Reports May 10, 2021 Kobee Smith, CDL student at SRTC-Tifton, learns how to recognize human trafficking as part of the program s curriculum Southern Regional Technical College TIFTON, Ga. — Before a commercial truck driver graduates from Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC), the student must prove that they are ready to handle the demands of driving a commercial vehicle. During their final exams, students demonstrate that they are proficient in operating a commercial vehicle on public roads through a variety of maneuvers, performing range operations such as clearance maneuvers, backing, turning, parallel parking, and coupling/uncoupling a big rig. In ten weeks’ time, the program provides basic training in the principles and skills of commercial truck operations, putting dozens of safe, qualified commercial truck drivers on the road each semester.
