2 Greensburg councilmen announce reelection campaign

Two Greensburg city councilmen are getting an early start in their campaigns to keep their seats, this week announcing a joint re-election bid. Gregory Mertz and Donnie Zappone both Republicans are in the final year of their first term on council. The pair plan to start circulating petitions next week to ensure their spot on the ballot in May’s Republican primary. In their announcement, Mertz and Zappone touted council accomplishments over the last four years especially an overhaul of the city planning office designed to reduce red tape for property owners and developers.

People tend to stay indoors more in the winter, but Rick Steele is hoping folks will take a walk to one of Greensburg’s three little food pantries to drop off a few supplies. The need is just as great in cold weather as it is in warm weather, said Steele, president of Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department, whose junior firefighters founded the program in 2019.

Sexual assault BELLEFONTE A 57-year-old Bellefonte man was sexually assaulted on Nov. 11, 2020 at SCI Benner along Institution Drive, Benner Township, Centre County, state police at Rockview said. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, police said. Drug possession CENTRE HALL Joshua Rearick, 36, of Port Matilda, was found in possession of brass knuckles and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop at the intersection of South Pennsylvania Avenue and Penns Valley Pike, Potter Township, Centre County on Jan. 14, state police at Rockview said.
