Man and woman from Uhrichsville charged criminally after she ODs

staff report The Times-Reporter NEW PHILADELPHIA A man and woman from Uhrichsville were both charged criminally after she overdosed in a hotel room early Thursday. The woman, 32, was charged with inducing panic. The man, 29, was charged with violating a temporary protection order. He called 911 at 2:12 a.m. to report she had overdosed at the hotel in the 1100 block of W. High Avenue. He was taken to the Tuscarawas County jail on a warrant issued because he failed to attend a Jan. 20 status hearing at the Southern District of Tuscarawas County Court in Uhrichsville. She was taken to Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital after a police officer administered an overdose antidote. She was wearing a location monitor under terms of an order from Southern District court. 

Dresden E Korns, 24 , of Newcomerstown charged with attempted murder

Dresden E. Korns was also charged with two counts each of child endangering and felonious assault. He is accused of shooting his 18-year-old brother, Dalton Miller, while Miller s 16-year-old girlfriend and Korns children, ages 2 and 4, were in a sport utility vehicle. Detective Sgt. Adam Fisher previously said Korns shot his brother s left shoulder blade while his girlfriend was seated next to him in the front passenger seat. The children were in the back seat.  The incident occurred while Korns was standing on the pavement and the others were inside the Jeep, Fisher said. It occurred after an argument. The incident occurred near Newcomerstown on Stocker Ridge Road near state Route 258, Fisher said.

South court sees 45 percent fewer new cases in 2020 than 2019

UHRICHSVILLE The number of cases filed in the Southern District of Tuscarawas County Court decreased significantly from 2019 to 2020, according to Judge Brad L.  Hillyer. The total number of cases filed for the year was 2,319, a decrease of 1,933 from the 2019 filings, he wrote in his annual report. The drop represents a 45.4 percent decline.  The major factor in this decrease was the COVID-19 pandemic, Hillyer wrote. This led to less travel and significantly less traffic tickets being issued. Also, with people in quarantine more, less criminal activity occurred. The court saw 73 new cases for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, a decrease of 38 from 2019. The 2020 figure represents a 34 percent drop from the number of cases in 2019.

Dresden E. Korns, 24, is charged with attempted murder and felonious assault in connection with the shooting that occurred Friday afternoon in Oxford Township. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing Thursday morning in the Southern District of Tuscarawas County Court in Uhrichsville. Acting Judge Jason Jackson sent the case to the grand jury. He set bail at $100,000 with a 10 percent feature.  Korns is accused of shooting his 18-year-old brother, Dalton Miller, while Miller s 16-year-old girlfriend and Korns children, ages 2 and 4, were in a sport utility vehicle.
