Residents from a Listowel nursing and retirement home hard hit by a COVID-19 outbreak connected to four deaths are being moved to area hospitals as officials work to reduce the spread of the virus.
Six residents from Caressant Care – three in long-term care and three from an adjoined retirement home – were the first to be relocated Tuesday. More are expected to follow this week.

“We recognize that this is home for residents,” said Stuart Oakley, the communications and marketing manager at Caressant Care, a long-term care and retirement home operator based in Woodstock. “The decision to transfer is not taken lightly.”

EXETER – A second resident at Exeter Villa has died as the long-term care home and retirement residence continues its battle with COVID-19.
“This resident was a beloved, long-standing soul who lived in the retirement living side, then the long-term care side of Exeter Villa,” said administrator Erika King in a press release. “Staff are deeply saddened by this loss as we extend our sympathy to loved ones.”

As of Jan. 7, the Exeter Villa had confirmed a total of 39 cases. Of those cases, 31 were in long-term care residents and seven were in staff.
TILLSOBURG, ONT. A major COVID-19 outbreak at a Tillsonburg nursing home has public health officials sound the alarm. There are now 90 confirmed cases of the virus at Maple Manor, including 55 residents and 35 staff. Four residents at the home have died. The facility houses just over 90 residents. Veronica Thurston, 21, could be seen staring through a window and waving at her grandmother from outside the residence Tuesday. It’s the only way she can see her right now. “It’s totally different,” she said as she tried to compose herself. “My grandma actually tested positive for COVID. Sorry, this is my first time coming to see her since.but it’s nice that we can still see her through the window. I love that.”
